Sunnyside Cottage – Most Dog-Loving Escape in Robin Hood’s Bay

Tucked away in the spellbinding Robin Hood’s Bay, we recently had the joy of staying at Sunnyside Cottage—a haven where dogs are treated like royalty and humans feel they’ve stumbled upon buried treasure. In fact, it’s hands-down the most dog-loving cottage we’ve ever had the pleasure of staying in.

Envision this: cobbled streets snaking through a storybook fisherman’s village, charming narrow alleys that look like they’ve been plucked from a fairy tale, a harbour that sparkles like a gem in a pirate’s chest, and a cottage so comfy it’s like a belly rub for your soul.

So, pop the kettle on, grab your favourite biscuit, and buckle up. Our adventure at Sunnyside Cottage is a tail—ahem, tale—of delighted woofs, and hearts as full as our dog treat jar at home.

First Impressions

From the moment we set foot in the enchanting village of Robin Hood’s Bay, we knew our family staycation was going to be something special. As we pulled up to Sunnyside Cottage, nestled snugly in this picturesque coastal haven, excitement danced in our hearts. Our family, including our lively 5-year-old, Bobby, and our two beloved dogs, Charlie and Minnie, were about to embark on a dog friendly adventure like no other.

Swinging open Sunnyside’s door felt like stepping into the world’s fluffiest embrace. You know that toasty feeling of slipping into your favourite onesie? Yep, that’s the Sunnyside vibe. Our canine pals sensed it immediately. We almost told them to get off the furniture—out of sheer habit—before we remembered, they’re allowed! Bobby wasted zero time nosing around every delightful nook and cranny, his five-year-old imagination lighting up at the prospect of new adventures.

The cosy living area had a hidden treasure chest stocked with board games, arty bits and puzzles. Upstairs a cosy little bookshelf with something for everyone. The kitchen? Bathroom? Immaculate, with all the amenities you’d ever need.

But it wasn’t just the aesthetics that captivated us. It was that magical moment when Minnie, gave an excited woof of approval, followed by Bobby’s gleeful laughter echoing through the rooms. It was the realisation that we had found a place where both our furry and human whirlwinds could find their own corners of joy.

As the sun set over Robin Hood’s Bay, we couldn’t help but smile. The cottage had won us over, not just with its charming interiors, but with the heartwarming way it embraced every member of our family. With Bobby engrossed in a Roald Dahl book, Minnie curled up by the window, and Charlie taking a well-deserved rest, we knew that our stay at Sunnyside Cottage was bound to be an unforgettable experience.

It’s a Dog’s Life at Sunnyside

Sunnyside Cottage doesn’t just welcome dogs; it rolls out the red carpet for them, paw prints and all.

First off, the Dog Borrow Box—talk about a life-saver! Forgot your walking essentials? No worries, Sunnyside has you covered. Open the box, and you’ll find everything a dog owner might need but often forgets, including walking bags, dicky bags, towels and more. There are also yellow accessories for our more anxious tail-waggers. It’s as though the cottage knows that, just like humans, dogs have their quirks and comforts too.

Then there were the drying robes. Let’s face it, the UK weather can be a bit moody, and nothing puts a dampener on a doggy day out like, well, getting damp. These robes aren’t your standard towel toss-over; they’re more like doggy dressing gowns, adding a dash of luxury to the drying-off ritual.

But let’s not forget the pièce de résistance—the welcome pack. Alongside a tub brimming with tasty treats and a toy box, our dogs were greeted with a fashionable bandana and bowtie, poo bags and treats good enough to make your dog do cartwheels. It’s the kind of attention to detail that transforms a dog friendly stay into a dog fabulous one.

Sunnyside doesn’t just stop at comfort; they elevate it—quite literally in the case of the feeding stations. It’s as if the cottage staff have considered every strain and stretch that a dog might endure and removed it from the equation.

And, if your dogs are anything like ours, they love a good blanket. Sunnyside delivers on this front too, offering a selection of snugly blankets perfect for cuddling up on the sofa. No paws barred here; every inch of Sunnyside screams ‘your dogs are welcome!’

Sunnyside’s ethos isn’t about merely tolerating dogs; it’s about celebrating them. It’s the little things, like the freedom to jump on the furniture or a designated area complete with dog accessories, that make this more than just a stay; it’s an experience.

Something For The Kiddos

Keeping a 5-year-old entertained is no small feat—any parent will tell you that. But at Sunnyside, the phrase “I’m bored” was blissfully absent from Bobby’s vocabulary. Between the beach adventures, museum visits, and the in-cottage diversions, our little energiser bunny was hopping from one activity to the next.

Robin Hood’s Bay and its surroundings are a child’s dream. Bobby couldn’t get enough of the fossil hunting at the beach. Following this up with a visit to the Prehistoric Dinosaur and Fossil museum was the cherry on top. The best part? It’s completely free and dog friendly, so Minnie and Charlie got to tag along for the educational ride.

Day trips to Whitby, Scarborough offered plenty of diversions. The Dracula Experience in Whitby had Bobby wide-eyed and gripped. We hopped on an open-top bus tour, scooped up some ice cream, and even had a pirate ship adventure. In Scarborough, the escape room provided an entirely different thrill feeling like we’d stepped into a Harry Potter film.

And for the little man with endless energy, the hilly streets of Robin Hood’s Bay were a playground. Quick trips to the Fish Box chippy and strolls around Dollies, the vintage sweetshop, offered plenty of entertainment for Bobby and a bit of breath-catching for Dad chasing him around.

From the cottage to the coast, keeping Bobby entertained was a doddle. There wasn’t a single moment for yawns or restless feet. Sunnyside and Robin Hood’s Bay offer the perfect formula for a family holiday, keeping everyone—kids and canines alike—utterly captivated.

The Dog Friendly Delights of Robin Hood’s Bay

Robin Hood’s Bay, a charming village steeped in history and oozing character, had us and our four-legged companions in awe. Our pawsitively delightful adventure took us to some incredible spots that truly embraced our furry family members.

One such gem was the Smugglers Cave, a quirky, dog-loving pub just around the corner from Sunnyside Cottage. Tucked away in its own little world, it offered a refuge after long days of exploration. What’s more, they not only welcomed dogs but also catered to our takeout whims. We relished the most heavenly burger, destined to go down in history as one of the best bites we’ve ever had.

Now, while the Ghost Tour was on our radar, our bustling days left Bobby snoozing faster than a flickering candle. As he dozed off, we missed our chance for some supernatural spookiness. But fear not, we’ll keep it on the list for our next escapade, along with The Cove, Bay Hotel, Brambles Bistro, The Laurel, and Victoria Hotel.

In this enchanting village, the welcome for our fur buddies was as warm as the smiles we received. We especially loved the Paws Pet Shop, an Aladdin’s cave of canine goodies. Minnie and Charlie were spoilt for choice, and let’s be honest, they deserved it! Robin Hood’s Bay is not just a destination; it’s a canine haven, and we’re already planning our triumphant return.

With both Whitby and Scarborough just a stone’s throw away, we knew our adventures were far from over. These neighbouring towns opened up a world of possibilities for additional escapades, from Dracula’s domain and open bus tours to scenic strolls and seaside amusements.

Farewell For Now

And so, our dog friendly odyssey in the captivating embrace of Robin Hood’s Bay comes to a close. Sunnyside Cottage, with its warm woof-worthy welcome, provided the backdrop for memories etched in our hearts.

From the moment we stepped into Sunnyside Cottage, we knew we had found a home away from home that catered to every member of our family. The thoughtful touches, like the dog borrow box, cosy dog beds, raised feeding station, and comforting blankets, were like hugs for our furry companions.

Robin Hood’s Bay, a tapestry of history and charm, offered our son Bobby endless delights, while our dogs reveled in its dog friendly spirit. We strolled the hilly streets, savoured the local flavours, and uncovered the hidden treasures that make this village an enchanting haven for both humans and canines alike.

If you’re seeking a getaway that welcomes your furry companions with open arms and offers endless smiles, make sure to visit Sunnyside Cottage – it’s more than a destination; it’s an invitation to create memories that will last a lifetime.
