Uber is now dog friendly!
Transport service Uber is launching a new service enabling customers to book journeys with their pets accompanying them. The service will be available in the UK from today.
The minicab app company announced the new service which aims to make life easier for pet owners and their pooches. Prior to the initiative being announced it was up to the Uber drivers’ discretion whether or not to allow passengers to travel with their pets.
However, now, passengers will be matched to drivers willing to transport people and their dogs/pets. Please note that service and assistance dogs will still be welcome in standard Ubers.
Extra fees will apply to the journeys with a surcharge of £3.20 in London. In the rest of the country travelling with your pet will incur a £2 surcharge.
The general manager of Uber UK, Andrew Brem said;
“We’re really happy to be launching Uber Pet in the UK, bringing even more convenient travel options to our riders.”
He continued, “with Covid-19 restrictions lifted, it’s the perfect time for new pets to get out and about again with you, no matter what your plans.”
For every Uber Pet fare, the company will donate £1 to the charity All Dogs Matter.
