Looking for the best dog walks with stunning views in the South Downs? You’re in the right place! The South Downs National Park is packed with scenic trails perfect for exploring with your four-legged friend. Whether you’re after sweeping coastal views, peaceful woodland paths, or rolling hills that stretch for miles, this beautiful part of the UK has it all.
In this blog, we’re sharing three of our favourite dog-friendly walks with a view in the South Downs. Each one offers something a little different – from dramatic clifftop routes to tranquil countryside strolls. So grab the lead, pack some treats, and get ready to discover some of the most picturesque dog walks in the South Downs.
Old Winchester Hill
Embrace this hilly route with your four-legged friends and be rewarded with outstanding views over the Hampshire country. Your dogs will love running free in the fresh air across the grass, although four legs will definitely find it easier than two with a few hills involved!
Keep an eye out for wild orchids and butterflies in the grassland which is managed by grazing sheep so keep your dogs under close control. You can also discover the old Iron age hill fort for a bit of history amongst the nature reserve.

📍 Start point: Old Winchester Hill Car Park, SO32 3NQ
🐾 Route type: Circular, hilly, medium difficulty
Beachy Head
Overlooking the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain, this windy walk is great for watching paragliders soaring in the skies above. It is also home to the highest coffee shop in the South Downs, great for refuelling with a hot drink and snack mid walk! We do recommend keeping dogs on lead for their own safety as you walk along the cliff top.
Make sure you are prepared for this long and hilly route as it is a hard level walk. However you’ll be rewarded with the views looking out to the iconic Beachy Head cliff-top lighthouse and the Seven Sisters chalk cliffs.

🐾 Route type: Circular, hilly, hard
Blackdown Hill
For another beautiful dog walk with a view in the South Downs follow the woodland paths across Blackdown Hill. Owned and managed by the National trust, the woodland is covered with a blanket of Bluebells in the Spring. Come July it is also famous for its mass of purple Bilberries.
Whilst the route is fairly flat you are quite high up on the hill, resulting in some beautiful views across the Black Down landscape.
