Whether you’re out for a stroll on the beach or travelling to your next dog friendly destination. Nothing is more important than keeping your pooch hydrated.
A dog water bottle allows your canine companion to have water at the drop of a hat. Perfect for those long car journeys!
Our repawters have sniffed out some of the best dog water bottles worthy of a big ole woof. Before we delve in, here are some of the things you should think about before purchasing!
What Makes A Good Dog Water Bottle?
If you’re as adventureous as we are, then your dog water bottle will need to weather all kinds of locations. By getting one with a sturdy material, you can be confident that it isn’t going to leak or break after dropping it on the floor. You’ll also want to make sure the material is BPA-free.
Some dogs love a good chew too, so a more durable option, such as stainless steel, may be more suitable for your pooch.
Portable Cup/Bowl Feature
Most dog water bottles feature an attached flip-out cup or water bowl. These are much more effective than having to carry a seperate water bowl or filling up your hands. This way your dog can slurp till his heart is content.
If you’re travelling to your local park for your daily walk, you don’t want a huge, weighty bottle of water. On the other hand, if you’re going out for a day-long hike on the mountains, a smaller, lightweight option may not provide the adequate amount of hydration. Getting one that’s somewhere in between may be suitable for all occasions.
Similarly, you’ll want to remember the size of your dog. Your teacup sized Chihuahua, isn’t going to need the biggest bottle in the world. The general rule of thumb is that for every 1lb of body weight, your dog should be drinking a minimum of 15ml of water per day. This can go up by an extra 30-60ml if they’re bursting with energy!
Clips for Easy Carrying
Some dog water bottles come with carabiner clips, so you can snap it on to something like your backpack. This means you won’t have to rummage through your bag to find the water bottle, making your dogs drink more accessible.
This is one of the key features in finding a water bottle. There’s nothing worse than finding your bottle has leaked all over your things. Worse yet, this could come at a time when your dog really needs some water and you have none left! Opt for a bottle that prides itself on the leak-proof feature.
Think About the Snout
Flat snout breeds may find it difficult to drink out of a normal dog water bottle. In this case you’ll want to make sure the water bowl/cup attachment is fully rounded rather than long and narrow.
Okay, now we’re all clued up on slurping, let’s dive into some of our favourite dog water bottles!
This dog water bottle at 550ml was rated as one of our top dogs. While this dog water bottle has many great features, it’s best is the portable handy dandy attachment! This reversible, leaf-shaped bowl fits onto most plastic water bottles with a 30/38 mm bottleneck which means you could take a spare bottle! The bowl folds in and lays flat over the bottle when not in use.
This clever dispenser is dishwasher safe and made from 100% food-safe silicone. It also includes a removable aluminium buckle so you can attach your water bottle to a backpack or belt loop.
Our only pitfall for this design is the durability of the water bottle itself (made with thin plastic). But being able to pop the attachment on any water bottle makes up for it!
This dog water bottle is different from others on the market with its exclusive design and 520 ml capacity. It works with a simple squeeze which feeds water into the handy foldable waterbowl that sits on top.
Once you’ve finished, let go of the squeeze and the rest of the water goes right back into the bottle with its in-built pipe system and the bowl folds back in.
One of the things this bottle prides itself on is its leak-proof design. The bottle comes with a waterproof lock which you can turn on before folding the water bowl back in. The sealed silicone gasket also helps to ensure that there is no water leakage.
Material-wise, this bottle is made out of HDPE stock while the water bowl is produced with food standard silicone; it is BPA-free, it has no smell, and it is ecologically friendly and recyclable.
Although the design is unique, it also has slight pitfalls. First of all, you have to keep squeezing to get the water out. Once you get to the bottom of the bottle the water can be difficult to squeeze. Overall, this water bottle is great for dogs always on the go!
Now, this is one handy tool holding 250ml for food and 350ml for water! This 2-in-1 dog water bottle has two chambers, one for storing dry food and the other for water. This is perfect for those heading out for a longer adventure.
It’s designed to be ultra-leak-proof to ensure the dry food never gets soggy. The lid is embedded with silicone gaskets which seals tightly stopping water leaking and keeping food fresh.
It comes with two collapsible water bowls made from food-standard which is BPA-free. The bottle and bowls are easy to clean and durable (perfect for exploring). Its portable size fits also fits into your car’s cup holder and comes with clips for hanging on the backpack.
This is a great alternative to some of the dog water bottle designs.
When we first saw this water bottle we thought – ‘huh it’s just a normal water bottle?’ But when you look closely it has a unique roller ball design to release the flow of water. Dogs naturally prefer it when water comes from a running source, this water bottle provides a similar experience for them.
The bottle itself holds 250ml, 500ml and 750ml and comes in a range of styles made from stainless steel. It’s made with BPA-free plastics and is leak-proof complete with waterproof seals. It also comes with a carabiner clip making it easy to attach to your belt or bag.
This handy water bottle holds up to 400ml of water and comes in a wide range of different colours.
This one comes with a unique purification system which filters water with coconut fibre, absorbing impurities, removing residual chlorine and eliminate odour. This can be changed, once every 2-6 months or 100 bottles water. Perfect option for dogs who need to be a little more careful when drinking water.
It’s made BioCleanAct which is a very safe choice because it stops any bacteria growth in the open drinking trough. FDA approved and BPA-free. Just as some of the others featured in the guide, it works with a button-pushing system. Push the button to release the water, and push it back with a tilt to let the water flow back in.
Looking for one that comes with a filter? The Tosiicop bottle comes with a built-in PP cotton filter to filter impurities and absorb any odours. This makes it the perfect bottle for dogs with kidney issues, who may need to take more care when drinking water.
It has a capacity of 330ml and is made with safe BPA-free materials. Similar to some of the others, you push a button to release the water, and the same button to tilt it back into the bottle.
The U-shaped trough is similar to some of the others created with our dogs drinking habits in mind. It’s also leak-proof with a silicone ring and a leak-proof cup cover.
This unique BPA-free water bottle holds up to 500 ml and available in grey, green and blue. The foldable bowl provides a larger dispensing area than some of the others making it suitable for both food and water. The wider bowl means its easier to clean.
It also comes with a carabiner so you can clip your bottle to a backpack.
This handy bottle is both portable, convenient and personalised! It comes with a capacity of 580ml. This water bottle is simple to use by flipping over the silicone leaf and squeezing the water out.
This bottle isn’t as durable as some of the others out there, but overall, a good bottle for smaller adventures. It also comes with a convenient wrist strap which is handy for clipping it to your bag or carrying it around.
Rather than having a flip-out lid to use as a trough, the cup comes off. The best part? The design of the lid was made to fit a dog’s natural drinking style.
The stainless steel bottle holds 750ml, and has been designed for rugged use, so it can withstand being dropped on rocks while out and about hiking. The carabiner clip also allows you to comfortably clip it to your backpack.
It isn’t as leak-proof as others on the market, but like other stainless steel water bottles, the secure cap keeps leaks mostly at bay.
The Vivaglory water bottle has been especially designed for dogs to have a safe, non-exposed portable drinking bowl. The bowl acts as a lid for the bottle, folding down and fitting the curve. Not only does this give the bottle more space to hold liquid (750ml), but it allows you to pour the unused water back to avoid water wasting.
The bottle has been made with food grade stainless steel and BPA free plastic, therefore it’s super safe for your pup. It also comes in a range of different colours. Did we mention is comes with a 365 day guarantee?
