Blenheim Palace is one of Oxfordshire’s most impressive days out, with more than 2,000 acres of Parkland, sweeping views, historic gardens and plenty of space to explore. But if you’re planning to bring your dog along, there are a few rules worth knowing before you arrive.
Where dogs can go varies across the estate, with some areas usually off limits to four-legged visitors. This autumn, however, Blenheim Palace is temporarily changing the rules, opening up parts of the estate that dogs wouldn’t normally get to explore.
So, how dog friendly is Blenheim Palace? And what changes during Autumn Paws Outdoors? Here’s everything you need to know before visiting with your dog.
Visiting Blenheim Palace with a dog
Blenheim Palace is dog friendly – but exactly where your dog can explore depends on when you visit.
During a normal visit, dogs are welcome across the estate’s 2,000 acres of Parkland, giving you plenty of space for a walk with the Palace as a rather spectacular backdrop. Dogs are also welcome in the first area of the Walled Garden and the Oxfordshire Pantry.
There are normally several areas where dogs aren’t permitted, including:
- The Palace itself
- The Formal Gardens
- The Great Court
- The main area of the Walled Garden
- Adventure Play
- Stables Café
- The Orangery Restaurant
Please note, assistance dogs are exempt from some of these restrictions.
Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times across the estate. Blenheim is home to livestock and wildlife, and parts of the Park are separated by electric fencing, so this is one rule to take particularly seriously. Owners are also expected to clean up after their dogs and use the waste bins provided.
For a longer walk, Blenheim also has dog-friendly routes through its Parkland, including the Queen Pool walk and the longer Park Perimeter route.
Autumn Paws Outdoors
Here’s where things get interesting. From 1st September to 4th October 2026, Blenheim Palace is opening more of the estate to four-legged visitors as part of its Autumn Paws Outdoors event – giving dogs access to areas that are normally off limits.
For just over a month, dogs can join you in the Formal Gardens, Great Court and Walled Garden – areas that are normally off limits during a standard dog-friendly visit. Water stations will also be available throughout the Courtyards and Walled Garden area during the event.
Even better, you don’t need a separate ticket for Autumn Paws Outdoors. Access is included with a valid Palace pass or day ticket.
Can dogs go inside Blenheim Palace?
No, dogs aren’t allowed inside Blenheim Palace itself. That doesn’t change during Autumn Paws Outdoors. The event is all about giving dogs additional access to the outdoor areas rather than opening up the building itself.
Dogs also remain unable to enter Adventure Play, Stables Café, the Orangery Restaurant or the Walled Garden Pizzeria during Autumn Paws Outdoors, with exceptions for assistance dogs.
Do dogs have to be on lead at Blenheim Palace?
Yes. Dogs must remain on a lead at all times, and this rule still applies during Autumn Paws Outdoors.
With livestock and wildlife living throughout the estate, Blenheim asks visitors to keep dogs under control for their safety as well as that of the animals living there. You’ll also find dog waste bins around the Park, and dogs shouldn’t be left unattended in vehicles while visiting.
Where can you eat with a dog at Blenheim Palace?
The Oxfordshire Pantry is the main dog-friendly option and remains open to four-legged visitors during Autumn Paws Outdoors, so you can stop for a drink or something to eat without having to leave your dog behind.
You can also bring your own picnic to enjoy within the Park, which could be a particularly nice option if you get a dry autumn day. Blenheim Palace provides fresh water bowls for dogs and even serves dog-friendly ice cream from its ice cream stands.
DogFest at Blenheim Palace
If one dog-friendly event isn’t enough, there’s another reason to visit towards the end of Autumn Paws Outdoors… DogFest at the Palace takes place on 3rd and 4th October 2026, coinciding with the final weekend of Autumn Paws Outdoors.
The separately ticketed event will feature a fun dog show, breed meet-ups, shopping and a social space on the Palace Lawn with picnic seating and live acoustic music. Every visitor will also receive a complimentary commemorative photo with their dog.
