This week I had one of those deep conversations. Do you know the ones where you start discussing life, the stars and the moon? One of those. Now I’m fascinated with things like astrology, and our conversation soon took a turn into dog star signs.
The more we started discussing human characteristics and star signs, we looked at Charlie and Minnie to see if their star signs were accurate too. Low and behold their dog star signs were very accurate! So today, we’ve been digging into the doggy zodiac.
Before we get started (and before my husband rolls his eyes again), this just a quick note to say that dog star signs are just for fun. Take it with a pinch of salt and look up to see if your dog’s personality matches with their sign!

The traditional dates used for each sign are as follows:
- Capricorn: December 22 – January 20
- Aquarius: January 21 – February 18
- Pisces: February 19 – March 20
- Aries: March 21 – April 20
- Taurus: April 21 – May 21
- Gemini: May 22 – June 21
- Cancer: June 22 – July 22
- Leo: July 23 – August 23
- Virgo: August 24 – September 22

The Capricorn Dog – The Busy Bees
December 22nd – January 20th
Capricorn is one of the most grounded dog star signs in the zodiac. Capricorn dogs beat to the rhythm of their own drum. They are active and athletic and love to run around for ages. These ambitious pooches are very intelligent, disciplined, dedicated, and hardworking – you’ll find them super easy to train.
They exude a sense of being in charge. If there’s other dog’s in the pack, they always aim to be the top dog and they will teach their wisdom to the other pets too. They know their place when it comes to their humans, and if they could salute you with their paws, they would. Though if you tell them off, you’re likely to get a ‘talk to the paw’ kind of vibe.
Capricorns are very methodical in their approach to things. They know that the more treats they get, the more they can stash away in case they’re really hungry. They’re also very inquisitive and enjoy peering out of windows – mostly waiting for order to return and for their human to come home.
The Aquarius Dog – Our Little Helpers
January 21st – February 19th
The humanitarian, is a dog star sign from the element of air. Aquarius dogs are highly intelligent, quirky and interesting. These dogs are bright, funny and very loving. These pooches have a thirst for knowledge and thrive during training.
You’ll often find they enjoy weird foods, love specific toys, have strange habits or enjoy unique activities. They’re very social and love other animals, but also independent needing time and space to recharge. These easy-going pooches enjoy going with the flow but can also be unpredictable, no doubt they’ve had you laughing at random moments.
The world is their oyster. There is a deep sense of wonder in all Aquarians, so loyal and focused when they have a job to do. They love to feel like they are helping and they would make great therapy or assistance dogs.
The Pisces Dog – Sensitive Souls
February 20th – March 20th
The Pisces pooch almost always has a sixth sense when it comes to the moods of humans and animals. You can stare into their soul while looking into their eyes and they can read your heart and mind by looking into yours.
Piscean pooches are extremely intuitive – they can sense your bad moods and will often try to cheer you up. They’ll also know when you’re about to take them for a walk before you’ve even said it. Pisces need to be near their humans at all times, so you are sure to have a shadow.
Pisces are introspective, so if your dog keeps to himself he may just be lost in thought in his inner world. They are very special, but sensitive souls, who feel things very deeply. If there is trouble brewing at home, take them for a walk to help them escape from the atmosphere.
These loveable pups will adopt almost anyone as a member of the pack – most likely to ask the burglar for a belly rub.
The Aries Dog – Action Pooch
March 21st – April 20th
The Aries pooch is fueled by passion, authority and pride. This active pooch loves to play and run around – it keeps them happy and out of trouble. Many Aries dogs tend to be accident-prone or run off without notice.
These dogs will learn with enthusiasm but will get easily distracted. They LOVE action, balls and frisbees. If your Aries is pacing around and you know that they don’t need the toilet, give them something to do to keep them active.
This sign can also be a little argumentative and stubborn at times. Usually they won’t take no for an answer. If you have a small Aries dog, you’ve probably noticed they have small dog syndrome. This sign is very firey and they totally dig an argument, either with you or a passing cat.
An Aries dog has plenty of great qualities, shining in emergency situations, police or military work and search-and-rescue.
The Taurus Dog – Comfort is King
April 21st – May 21st
Taurus dogs are known for being very stubborn but very loyal. Has your Taurus pooch every “decided” when a walk is over and stood still or sat down, refusing to move? That’s a typical Taurus.
Taurus dogs love their comfort and stability within the home. They enjoy a comfy place to sleep and roll their eyes if they’re moved. They’re fussy with food and tend to have that one special toy they don’t want to let go of. You may think at times they’re being lazy or even disobedient, but they are in fact very intelligent and prefer to just ‘go’ at their own pace.
Taurus dogs do not like aggressive, loud or stressful homes, and will often times shy away from these situations. These dogs enjoy the quiet life, a weekend at home watching Netflix. No fuss, although they’ll only cuddle with you when they want to.
The Gemini Dog – Chatterbox
May 22st – June 21st
Gemini dogs can be playful one minute and then withdrawn and sulky the next. You’ll often find they are extremely intelligent and enjoy the sound of their own voice. They love to make a whole range of expressive noises and grunts. They also know how to listen making them great at learning new tricks.
Geminis dogs like tricks and activities that involve them to use their paws and motor skills. Digging for things will be super enjoyable for them so if you don’t want lots of little holes dug in your yard, find a toy that allows them to have to find the prize.
Socially, Gemini dogs are usually a pleasure. They love to meet new people and dogs and make friends pretty quickly. Gemini dogs also love children, fun and travelling in the backseat of your car. This is the perfect dog to take on all your Dog Furiendly adventures.
The Cancer Dog – Nurturing Nannys
June 22nd – July 23nd
Cancer dogs can make an extremely nurturing, family dog. These pooches are very loyal to their homes and families. They love to nurse and will also nurse you if you’ve had a hard day.
They adore a cuddle and they are fiercely protective and devoted to their owners. Your home is their castle and they’ll bark the place down if the postman so much as brushes past the front door.
They can also feel deeply hurt if you leave them out or use the wrong tone with them because they are super sensitive. They don’t like a lot of change. Moving or new home situations can be very stressful for them.
These sensitive souls need continuous reassurance, so be sure to give your Cancer dog lots of affection and positive reinforcement to ensure their constant comfort.
Cancer dogs make great companions for other animals, the elderly or even children.
The Leo Dog – Little Show Off
July 21st – August 20th
Leos are the royalty of the zodiac, loyal, bold, goofy, and a teeny bit melodramatic. These dogs have quite the charismatic presence and will gladly show off for you and your friends.
Leo dogs are warm, friendly and playful. Like a Lion, these dogs hold themselves proud and tall and see themselves as Queen or King of their domain. With this, they have a tendency of acting regal, demanding or needy. Leo dogs also love to be the centre of attention and will rebel when they are feeling left out or forgotten. Diva-like behaviour, but also fearless and loyal to the bone.
Leo dogs love the outdoors and everything that comes with it but they also love a comfortable throne to snuggle into when they get home. Often found soaking up the sunshine.
The Virgo Dog – Practically Perfect in Every Way
August 21st – September 20th
Virgo is the calmest astrology sign. These timid pups love cleanliness. You’ll probably find them figuring out ways to step around a muddy puddle rather than walking right through it. They spend a great deal of their time and energy on their personal grooming habits and nurturing other members of the family.
These pooches are duty oriented, productive, hard-working and make great worker dogs. They will learn quickly and continue training to perfection. Take them to volunteer at an old age home or hospital they will outshine all other signs at this job. They also make great fire dogs, police dogs, and assistant dogs.
Like the Taurus pooch, they love routine and can feel out of place when changes occur at home. These pooches are very practical and analytical but also cautious and a bit of a worrywart.
The Libra Dog – The Lovers
September 21st – October 20th
Libra is the lover of the zodiac and it shows! These pooches adore attention from everyone and other animals. You’re likely to find that these dogs are very social, and make friends with other dogs quickly. These dogs love having a companion to play with and adore their humans. You’ll often find that you have a little shadow following you around the house.
As the sign suggests, Libra is all about balance these confident dogs will walk or jump where most other signs dare to go because of their confidence with balance.
They have a sharp quick mind and love to learn new things, though they can be easily distracted. You’ll often find these curious pups wandering off into a world of their own.
The Scorpio Dog – Fierce and Loyal
October 21st – November 20th
The Scorpio dog is robust, intense and strong-willed. These pooches are extremely protective and security is of utmost importance to them. They don’t have a “chill” button, which is clear by their fierce loyalty to those they love. They are obsessively affectionate and can form very deep and lasting bonds with owners
These pooches are very mischievous, but always entertaining. They always know how to keep their owners in a good mood, but if you wrong them or show too much attention to another dog, they will chew up your slipper for revenge.
Scorpios are natural detectives so play games with them where they have to find the prize. They make great police dogs because they will follow the scent to the end.
The Sagittarius Dog – The Happy Clown
November 21st – December 20th
Sagittarius is the clown of the zodiac and love to perform tricks for others. The sound of human laughter is music to their ears and they will continue to do something if it makes you laugh. They’re likely to do something funny just for attention. Disney dogs are most likely to be Sagittarius, plenty of fun and getting into all kids of mischevious predicaments.
When they’re not clowning around, Sagittarius dogs often have their heads in the clouds and love exploring the world around them. They adore freedom and being on-the-go ad hate to be cooped up or on a lead.
Sagittarius dogs are extremely loyal to their owners and love physical affection. They can also be very impatient, so be sure to give them plenty of toys to occupy themselves with when you are at work.
