Cardigan makes a great choice for a dog friendly staycation! It’s one of Wales’ most historic market towns, and has everything from stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches, castles packed with history, and pubs to fill your belly with joy.

it also lays claim to being the location of the first National Eisteddfod of Wales back in 1176. So there’s plenty to sing about in this pretty little town. We’ve pulled together some of our favourite dog friendly places to visit in Cardigan. Bookmark it for your next adventure!


Dog Friendly Places to Eat And Drink In Cardigan

Fisherman’s Rest

This picturesque dog friendly restaurant is right on the waterfront. Overlooking the Afon Teifi river you can enjoy lovely views as you chow down on delicious food. Water and treats are provided to your pooch and they even sell frozen yoghurt for dogs.

The Ferry Inn

This dog friendly pub is right on the water so you’ll be taking in scenic views while you’re there. A small area of the pub is dedicated to eaters who don’t have dogs but the entire rest of the pub is completely dog friendly. Muddy boots and muddy paws are equally welcome here making it a great post walk destination. The food options at The Ferry Inn are varied including vegetarian and gluten free options. 

Pizza Tipi

The Pizza Tipi is both a cool and unique place to visit with a great selection of food and drink. Regularly featured in the national press as a lovely place to eat complete with fantastic views. Enjoy views of the River Teifi as you eat a perfectly cooked pizza straight out of the wood-fired oven. 

With an open air location and large stone fire pits in the central tipi this is a great atmosphere to bring the pooch and your friends. Being completely dog friendly as well Pizza Tipi is one of the gems of Cardigan.

Burns Pet Shop

Burns Pet Nutrition is a pioneering food brand founded by veterinary surgeon John Burns almost 30 years ago. They specialise in using simple, healthy and wholesome ingredients with no nasty chemicals.

The Welsh food brand has come a long way since then, with their fifth pet store opening in Cardigan. Inside you can find plenty of goodies for your  furry best friend. They sell a range of toys, accessories, snacks and f goodies to get the tail  wagging. What’s more? They support shelters, charities and community projects across the UK by donating 25% of their profits every year! 

There’s plenty of reasons to visit, whether you need advice from the  lovely and knowledgeable staff, emergency snacks during your holiday, or a bag of food from the  stocked shelves bursting with a variety of natural and healthy flavours. The store also features a bespoke health and wellness service that offers advice, guidance and microchipping to local pet parents.

Cardigan Guildhall Market

Cardigan Market is located in the focal point of the ancient market town of Cardigan. Not only do they have a good little café in the upper market, but a range of stalls offering a variety of foodie finds. You will also find local craft and hobby stalls. In the lower market, you can find all sorts from dressmaking and knitting to vintage clothing, home appliance repairs and collectables. Well behaved dogs are always welcome here on leads.


Dog Friendly Places To Visit In Cardigan

Dyfed Shire Horse Farm

Since 1981 a rare breed of shire horses have been bred at Dyfed Shire Horse Farm. Your pooch will love making lots of new animal friends and the scenic walks of the nature trails around the farm. Various animal and farm demonstrations take place throughout the day including tractor rides, land trains and horse and carriage rides. 

Both the on site cafe and adjoining campsite are completely dog friendly. All the staff love animals so you can expect them to make a fuss of your dog.

Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort

Castell Henllys is the only Iron Age Village in Britain reconstructed on the exact site where our Celtic ancestors lived 2000 years ago. Dogs must be kept on short leads in the village but have the whole park to adventure on.

There are many lovely walks around the houses and through the woods.The staff at Castell Henllys love welcoming dogs and even have treats at the reception ready to greet them.

Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park

A farm park situated opposite Cardigan Island. This nature reserve is home to many types of sea bird as well as wild Scottish sheep. On the walk around the farm you’ll be able to hand feed a selection of farm animals.

Between the farm and Cardigan Island seals can be seen popping their heads up. During September and October you’ll even see seal pups on the bottom of the cliffs. Dogs are very welcome here but encouraged to be kept on a lead. Next door to the farm is a campsite where dogs are welcome to stay.


Dog Friendly Accommodation In Cardigan 

Towyn Farmhouse

Just five minutes outside of Cardigan in the scenic coastal hamlet of Gwbert. Towyn Farmhouse has its own private hot tub as well as stunning sea views. This large holiday cottage is ideal for large groups and families and is dog friendly. Pets are welcome to stay for an additional £5 per night.

There are many idyllic walks in the area with coastal paths and sandy beaches to enjoy. The Ceredigion coast path runs north along Cardigan Bay and you can also join onto the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. The Farmhouse itself has a stylish and spacious interior that still retains many of its original features.

The Old Granary

The Old Granary is a Capel Farm House that’s an ideal getaway for walkers, dog lovers or a romantic break for 2. Minutes away from both the Pembrokeshire and Cardigan Bay coastal paths there are plenty of walks to enjoy.

A stunning and peaceful location, the farmhouse has a large garden and faces 11 acres of woodland area full of trails. Many activities can be done locally including golfing, sailing, surfing, fishing, horse riding and cycling. Best of all, the accommodation is completely dog friendly.

Caerllan

In the picturesque village of Aberporth, Caerllan is a refurbished and modern dormer bungalow equipped with luxury furnishings and stunning sea views. There are two beautifully furnished bedrooms including an en-suite and a twin room.

The large garden offers gorgeous views across Aberporth and the sea. Aberporth has two beaches which are a short 5 minute walk away from Caerllan. In the nearby village are shops, pubs and a well regarded fish and chip shop. This wonderful accommodation is a perfect dog friendly vacation no matter what time of year you visit.
