Dog Friendly Country Escape For Your Mini Moon in the UK

Weddings are full of hustle and bustle. After the wedding whirlwind, there’s nothing better than having something else to look forward to. More and more dog owners are opting for sharing their happiness with the dogs by booking a dreamy little mini moon, right here in the UK.

Our friend @lilahthewhippet spent a long time searching for a magical mini moon break where her dog could bask in the happiness too. In this article, they’re sharing some of the dog friendly country escapes that made the shortlist.

When embarking on my own search for the ideal UK-based mini moon, we had no idea just how many styles of staycation there are to choose from. If you prefer long walks in the countryside, and open spaces where you and your four legged family member can run free, here are our top mini moon recommendations.

Caradog Cottages, Wales

If you are looking for delicious food, picturesque walking and rest after your big day Abergavenny is one of the most beautiful and nurturing places to visit.  Surrounded by green space and stunning walks, there are plenty of culinary hidden gems to be discovered, such as dinner at The Walnut Tree, lunch at The Art Shop & Chapel, or the famous afternoon tea at The Angel hotel.

Caradog Cottages provide you with a choice of town cottages, and country cottages depending on how remote you’d like to be.  They will pop breakfast in your fridge so that you can get up and start your day.  Some of the cottages have outside space for your dog to run around, and all are within a short distance of a nature walk.  Your dog will be provided with a bed and one bowl for the duration of their stay.

In the town cottages you’ll find castle meadows nearby for your dog to run around in, and country cottages are near tons of places they can roam free of lead.  They recommend visiting The Skirrid for an extra special walk, especially if you are there mid week as dogs can go off lead.

Prices: vary. Sunday & Monday are the most affordable, which is perfect if you are going immediately after your wedding

Dogs: £15 per night

Wild Escapes, Hampshire

Wild Escapes is a totally unique and completely romantic mini moon experience.  Made up of four tree houses that blend in with the unspoilt surroundings, it’s the unspoken details that make this place feel close to our hearts.  Check this out…

Upon arrival you can expect a complimentary local hamper and bottle of sparkling wine to enjoy overlooking the vineyard where the wine was grown.  These bubbles will have travelled a total of around 3/4 mile in food miles from where they are picked, to where they are turned into wine, back to where you’ll be sitting, sipping them.

Your dog can expect a bed, a bowl, and in one lodge they actually have their own room that acts as a safe space for them to curl up and enjoy.  It has its own window so they don’t feel boxed in.  Your own room has a king size bed with a panoramic view of the countryside.

Stepping outside your treehouse you’ll see an outdoor bath.  If you bath at night, you can enjoy listening to owls singing alongside other sounds of nature.  Every cabin has a BBQ too.  If you don’t feel like cooking there are several award winning pubs for you to enjoy dinner.

There is no TV, no Wifi, just you and your new husband or wife.

Wild Escapes is completely fenced off so that your dog can run free.  There is endless space outside the vineyard for your dog to run free too, including a river where many of the locals take their dogs to swim.

If you are planning a winter wedding, we have it on good authority that dogs tend to make the most of the log burner after a long walk.

Prices: From £290 per night, min 2 nights during week, 3 nights on weekends

Dogs: £25 per dog, per stay
