Winston is an adorable black and tan Show Cocker Spaniel who just loves to go on adventures with his humum Caroline. They especially love to scope our the best staycation finds and this year stayed in Thornyfield Barn in the lake district with plenty of friends. Caroline shares her adventure below.

We enjoyed a lovely weekend up in the Lake District in a very lovely dog friendly barn! We booked via Sykes Cottages and asked very nicely if we could bring 3 dogs instead of the recommended 2 – thankfully the owners said yes!

8 humans and 3 dogs! What could go wrong!

We’d ordered a food home delivery for when we got to lodge, and thankfully all the big names deliver there. Much easier than taking everything with us as the cars were already full. It is down a long single lane track but well worth it at the end. On arrival, there is plenty of parking space for 4 cars and the area is just beautiful.

The barn is split over a few levels. The front door leads you into the stunning modern kitchen with everything you need. It’s well kitted out with enough crockery and a few essentials (salt/pepper/tea/coffee). The sliding doors lead out to the garden and on the other side, the wooden hallway leads to 2 bedrooms and stairs to the living area.

The living area is spectacular, with exposed beams, standout log fire and another set of sliding doors leading to the hot tub. There is then another small set of stairs. Leading to the other 2 bedrooms.

All 4 bedrooms are immaculate and to an incredibly high standard! 2 are super king beds with a full ensuite and the other 2 rooms can be made up as singles or super kings again. 1 of the bedrooms has the bathroom opposite (across the corridor) and the other is accessed through 2 doors, one from the bedroom, and one from the hall.

No dogs are allowed in the bedroom or on the furniture but to be honest, ours were so tired after their day, they didn’t care where they slept!

The hot tub was a welcomed feature and the peace and quiet, clear sky with no light pollution were just amazing. We weren’t overlooked and the area is just stunning.

Outside was amazing! Having 2 sliding doors meant the place was big enough to relax in the living area or the kitchen, or the hot tub! The Garden is completely enclosed, however just be aware if you have dogs that happily jump over walls! Although enclosed, there are parts of the wall that is quite low, and would be easy for a dog to jump over! On the other side however, there is a little stream that was fast flowing at times. Thankfully, none of ours seemed bothered and it wasn’t something we stressed over!

The barn has been built with no expense spared, with solid oak throughout and quirky little touches just add so much to it!

In terms of cost, we went out of season (Mid Feb) for Fri – Mon (although it was the same cost for the full week) and it was a reasonable £200 per couple. Something we would definitely look to go again! Click here to learn more about this gorgeous barn!

It was definitely approved by our dog squad!
